hospital free so far plus other things
well guess it's time for a long overdo update. I've been out of the
hospital since about june 19 and so far things are looking good. the
rest of may was farely rough and the beginning of june as well. Things
are fine now though so that's good.
Chris and i switched back to gentoo for our olinux installs a bit agao.
We did this for a few reasons and so far i'm happy with things. Chris
is doing development stuff for gentoo again, and I'm in the process of
setting up as an arch tester so that I can help out as well.
Medically things are going farely well. I'm kind of waiting till next
month to see what my new naturopath wants to do next in terms of medical
things. Also waiting to see GI here so that i can see what they want to
do next. Don't see GI till september though.

medical update
We had a phone conversation with my naturopath, and things are looking
good. we did add calcium to my suppliments, but that doesn't surprise me
much. my bp meds have been dropped drasticly since my last hospital
visit and that's a good thing. the doctor lowered my bp meds because of
my body starting to cooperate.
my angziety seems to be more under control though the vagus nerve
problems still need dealing with. So all and all things look good, it's
just waiting for my body to get back in line.

updates, updates
Well a lot has happened since i posted. For several reasons i wont go
into, chris left google. We ended up moving to oregon and are now in salem.
The weather is wonderful here. Our apartment is a bit smaller then our
last one but we also got rid of extra furnature when we moved so the
lack of space while annoying for some reasons isn't really a huge problem.
Bella has been doing farely well, she's got a blog of her own now,
though it's not been updated recently. I'm looking to move my blogs off
blogger and into an easier to use blog setup but we'll see if that
actually happens. The new blogger setup is kind of horrible and isn't
useable by folks with text browsers so i kind of just think it's not
worth using blogger any more if i can avoid it.

good bye savannah
It seems another chapter of my life has in it's way come to a close. My
last guide dog, my wonderful girl savannah died on the 11th of this
month. Apparrently she had cancer and there was fluid building up
around her lungs and heart.
The email i got from peggy said that she was happy and hyper till the
last, she loved to play ball and have fun.
I've always missed her since she left, but in some ways i miss her more.
A large part of me wishes i'd kept her after retirement because i never
was able to get another dog, but at the same time, i know they took care
of her in a way i never could. They have a dog for her to play with, and
she'll be missed greatly by their dog willow and bob and peggy.
I'll always miss her and i hope one day maybe I'll have another shephard
again, guide dog or pet. No dog can replace her, but shephards are
wonderful dogs.:)

bella says feed me.
Bella has really opened up since she's been here. she's starting to stay
out when the doorbell rings and i think this is incredible progress on
her part. I almost dread the day we move out of here.:P
We had a bit of fun with her earlier this week.

new naturopath, there might be hope after all.
Well, I saw a naturopath last week. she took an extensive medical
history, i think i was able to tell her more of what was going on then
i was able to tell the homeopath. She really took the time to listen to
me, she had a great deal to say, and she said i was right on track with
the suppliments i was taking. She had some questions about my probiotics
and suggested i increase the s boulardii more. I explained the
probiotics to her. Essentially to high of a dose of probiotic tends to
make me queezey though the s boulardii and the scd probiotics dont do that.
Tuesday we had our follow up apointment and she layed out her treatment
plan. Essentially it involves a great deal of detoxing, combine with
trying to reawaken my vagus nerve and try to get control over the
stomach acid problems, and also try to balance my hormones. It's been an
expensive trip so to speak, but i've got a great deal of hope that it
will actually work.
Jennifer is nice open and honest. She thinks she can help and we truely
hope she can.
Well, it's been almost a week since my origional backslide on scd last
week and my body is just now starting to completely bounce back. I felt
pretty crappy for a couple of days but i'm starting to feel decent
again, so we'll see how things go. I've found replacement foods to deal
with those insane cravings, so guess we need to overstock on dates.:P

measuring cups and spoons with braille
So a friend told me about these, the spoons are the pourfect 12 piece
set and the cups are the pourfect 9 piece set. Both of these have
specific braille labels on them. The spoons go from 2 tbsp to 1/64 tsp.
There is apparrently print to go on certain of these spoons. 1/4tsp is
considered a drop in recipes. if i remember correctly, 1/32 is a
smidgen, 1/16 is a dash, and 1/8 is a pinch.
These seem to be measurements to help folks who aren't sure what those
measurements should look like. Some recipes dont get that specific i
think but i suppose when you are dealing with spices you will run into
these measurements.
Either way I give these 5 stars so to speak and thanks to christina
for telling me about these!
This same company also makes a set of mixing bowls 1 cup, 2 cup, 4 cup,
6 cup, 8 cup, and 12 cup bowls.
I dont have the smaller bowls but i have the ones from 6 8 12 and find
them extremely useful. They're easy to measure things in because they
have raised lines at the cup marks. They also have egg crackers on the
side to help in cracking eggs. I find those particularly handy.
I'm going to test all of these rather extensively in the next several
days. I need to make bread along with bbq chicken, I'll glaze the
carrots in some duck sauce i have, and maybe i'll make jello and yoghurt
soon. Almond milk is a definit on the list for tomorrow along with the
chicken and carrots.
I may do the bread tomorrow or i may wait till wednesday.
I need to go over to safeway in the next couple days to. I want to get
fish that i know i'll like along with some uncured bacon, and maybe
another package of chicken. I also need to get juice for chris and i.
I have my next naturopath apointment wednesday. The lavela seems to be
working well, more so then the klonapin i'm happy about that. No real
angziety since i switched to the lavela.

the search for a doctor continues
Well the other day i went to see my new doctor. Basically i came away
with no better help then before. she essentially told me that do to my
many medical issues she wasn't experienced enough to help me and i
needed an internal medicine doctor.
How frustrating. She was my third doctor since i've been here. It seems
as though it's almost impossible to find a good doctor.

good bye starbucks
I've been almost completely scd for about a month now. The only thing i
wasn't really willing to give up was the weekly or so trip to starbucks.
It's a fun walk the people are friendly and so on. The problem though is
that i'm tollerating their stuff less and less and today is kind of the
final straw.
I went today thinking to get a nice solid breakfast which i've always
done but today when i went things went downfind but it resulted in
horrible diaria. Meh oh well, No more starbucks. That's not all bad it
will save us money anyway. Least i handle diluted coffee with almond
milk in it better.

s boulardii, the miracle probiotic/yeast
s boulardii is commonly used with those with digestive disorders. I
would suggest reading about it as it's very helpful in managing certain
things. At any rate, I started taking a boulardii 2 days ago. It's
supposed to help with diaria and things like killing bad bacteria etc
etc. Immediately the diaria i've had for almost a month seemed to stop.
I'm still playing with the doseage on the s boulardii but over all i've
found it to be very helpful and i'm glad i learned about it from the scd
folks.

the potential for hope
Well, a couple things have happened in the last couple of weeks that
give me a little hope in terms of my stomach. Well i ended up in the
hospital last week as usual, but things were a little different. The
thole nausia/vommitting thing came completely out of nowhere. I was
cooking food one minute and puking my brains out the next.
I was in for about 5 days or so and that was bad, but the changes in my
diet with scd seem to be helping in certain ways. I was quite ill as
usual but i was also a bit better able to function. As long as i didn't
get any illegals in my food i seemed to actually do alright.
So Now that i'm better able to function tomorrow i'm going to do quite a
chunk of cooking. I'm going to cook up some carrots as well as a ham i
got when we ordered food a while ago. I love ham and this one seems to
be quite interesting. so i'm going to prep it and hopefully it wont take
50 years to cook tomorrow.

sometimes things dont go the way we want.
This morning started out nicely. Woke up got going early finally got
caught up on the endless pile of dishes that cooking makes and started
our date night dinner which btw is ham, asparagus, and coconut flour bread.
Well, i got 4.5 hours into the ham, and the smoke alarm went off.
"carbon monoxide warning" Couldn't get it to stfu it went on for about
10 minutes.
Ham is still cooking asparagus is just started, but need to wait for
maintenence to come by and have a look.
So while i was planning adventures in the kitchen for today with the
coconut bread, we probably wont have it today at all since i'm currently
waiting for maintenence to come by.

a productive day
Well i didn't get as much as i wanted to get done today but some of that
is lazyness. I did get almond milk made and i made it using dates
instead of honey. This seems to taste much much better and it doesn't
give it the after taste that honey sometimes gives things.
Bella has been good lately, she's wrapping chris around her paws more
and more.
Tomorrow i have plans to make biscuits for chris banana cakes for me,
and i'd like to do the chicken egg bread but need to bake the chicken
and make the carrots first.
So randy gave me a bit of an idea. He's been trying to get me to use
audioboo though that isn't happening especially since they limit the
little podcasts to 3 minutes. Either way I think I'm going to start my
own...."adventures in the kitchen" maybe throw in some bella podcasts to
if she'll cooperate.

things to do
Well, I have food for today for scd so no need to cook today unless i
want eggs later.
I seem to be doing well so far. Haven't tasted the yoghurt today and
wont start eating that till tomorrow If i recall the scd site says to
wait for 3 days in before starting to add yoghurt.
I was having a bit of trouble getting the information i needed for s
boulardii but someone from the scd list was kind enough to post the file
to the list and that was very helpful. Thanks to those who have been
helping me on that list it's been very helpful.
I have to rant. Yahoo seems to require a captcha for their website in
order to actually get into your yahoo account. Well this is pointless
for me as their audio captchas only sometimes work and even then you
can't always understand them to solve them. I'm going to see if kathleen
can come up some time and help me with it so that i can actually get
into my yahoo account I'd like to download all those scd files then
repost them on my website for those who actually need them but are
having trouble with yahoo..
maybe i'll make this my next project for folks after it's unlocked.
We're still trying to get into my facebook account, maybe we can get in
do a final post and hopefully get folks to read this blog instead of
insisting on using facebook to communicate with me.
next week is my birthday. The collective offers 20% off to those on
their birthdays so I may go pick up some new strains to post to my other
blog in the coming weeks.
I got all the baking pans and supplies i need to start baking various
breads and muffins. I really like this part of scd because i can get
creative as long as i stick to scd legal items And scd items can get
quite flavorful and fun to do.
Bella is doing well, we switched to felidae grain free food both canned
and dry and she's complaining a bit about the canned stuff i guess even
cats complain about things that are healthy for them:P
I've finally found a way of eating that seems to work well for my
stomach i still can't eat much in the mornings but i certainly try now.
It seems that eating a cup every 2 hours works well. I just need to
remember to eat because my body doesn't always tell me when i need to
eat though sometimes it does.

good days and bad
Well i'm into my first 24 hours on scd and i'm still having reactions to
the milk i had tuesday. Hopefully this passes quickly would kind of
suck to end up having die off along with reaction to milk.
My almond milk yoghurt looks like it came out good, nice and jelled and
solid. Hopefully it didn't seperate too much when i go to eat it guess
i'll find out.
I enjoyed the jello i had for breakfast, i'd forgotten the stuff was
good lol.

cooking day!
I decided to make today a cooking day. Chris probably has his soup for
about the next 50 years. I need food however so today i made the scd
chicken soup and made an attempt at making almond milk yoghurt. There's
a recipe out there that uses jello to thicken it up but i forgot to pour
the jello slow and it kind of clumped. I fished the clumps that didn't
dissolve out with a spoon...Hope i didn't mess this up too badly.
I also made a giant container of jello just now. I used 100% blueberry
juice. It's not home made so it's not really scd legal, but we've not
made our own juice yet and probably wont for a bit longer yet. I need to
get back into the habbit of cooking first so i wont try juicing till i'm
more comfortable with cooking all the time again.
So, I'm definitly having reactions to milk products. I cut out milk
products for 5 days then last night i had nachos and 2 quesadillas and
had a horrible reaction to the sour cream and cheese blah. I love my
milk products, but i suspected it was a problem. Oh well. The more i
drink it the more i like coffee with almond milk:P

get back into the habbit of cooking first so i wont try juicing till i'm
more comfortable with cooking all the time again.
So, I'm definitly having reactions to milk products. I cut out milk
products for 5 days then last night i had nachos and 2 quesadillas and
had a horrible reaction to the sour cream and cheese blah. I love my
milk products, but i suspected it was a problem. Oh well. The more i
drink it the more i like coffee with almond milk:P

guide dog reflections
I was reading someone's guide dog training class journal, and it makes
me remember my days in class with savannah. I wish i'd not lost my blog
from 2001-2006. I put a lot of work into those pages and the database is
gone.....but....anyway, I was reading Amy's journal and i was thinking
back to the antisipation i had when i was waiting to go into class. It
made me remember the juno walks and the lectures before and after
getting my dog.
Over all, I miss having a dog because i was more confident with mobility
but it seems as though something has changed. I seem to be a much more
confident cane user and that's only grown in the past several months.
Traffic still makes me nervous and edgey but walking around san jose has
made me a lot more confident in myself and most of that confidence came
from getting and working with dogs and descovering that yes, getting out
and learning how to get places can be scary so i walked slow, but i also
learned with the dog that i can walk faster, as long as i clear the
areas around me and make sure those areas are covered.
Since chris and i have met I've also descovered that having a much
longer cane helps. When i was replacing my cane a couple months ago they
were out of the length i wanted, so i went with something 2 inches
taller.....My cane is taller then i am! But there's an advantage to
this. I know what's in front of me where as before i never quite knew. I
also know more of when streets are coming which is somethng i'd missed
in the dog. I feel the ramps before i'm on top of them and this helps.
The longer cane means i can walk farely fast and still know what's
around me and i can do it with or with out a dog, I'm liking this.

neuclear eggs!
So i had another gastric emptying study this morning. Nothing really new
to report i dont think, i didn't take my reglan because i assumed not
let's hope that wasn't a mistake:P
Either way the test was a bit different then the ones i had done in
florida it was an egg salad sandwich instead of scrambled eggs. and they
didn't administer the reglan at the half way mark like they did in the past.

prepping to start scd
Gearing up to start scd. I dont have an exact start date yet, Still
trying to finish getting coordinated. Have some few things left that
aren't allowed on scd but i'll make due and start it then do the intro
once my ton of ginger ale is gone. No point to starting the intro now
not with that still around..

restarting the scd diet
So I made a rather hard decision in that i have decided to restart scd
after being off it for almost a year. The hospital is willing to work
with me here in terms of not getting illegal foods plus we're in an area
of the country where it's much easier to get organic foods with nothing
added and so on.
Basically i've got things going for me this time that i didn't have last
time. I'm excited about starting it in some ways, I'd like to get
healthier and i need something to help keep me out of the hospital so
it's at least worth a shot.
I figure the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work out and i end
up eating what i was before. I had some improvement on scd but i had
problems to. Part of my problem was getting illegals and having
infractions. That was one of my largest problems, and i'm going to try
and avoid that this time.
I've got several non-scd foods left in the house. I have a whole ton of
cream of chicken soup left for one thing plus a bunch of ginger ale. I
figure i'll put off starting scd for a couple weeks and help get rid of
all the illegals in the house lol. So here's to trying to see what happens.

google, accessibility and blogs.
Well i just spent a painful 45 minutes on trying to enable comments on
my medical marijuana blog. I found it disturbingly inaccessible. I
ggather from looking at google's blogger.com website that it's "a new
look prettier blah blah blah. Well, first of all there's no easy way to
change your settings in this "new and exciting blogger look" I spent
forever tabbing to the right place. then when i'd get there sometimes
the field would be labeled sometimes it wouldn't be. So in some cases
i'd have to arrow arround to read the required fields then i'd spend
another 10 minutes tabbing back to that point because the dumbass thing
doesn't track properly. So i assure you the new blogger look is far from
new and exciting it's a pile of crap.
It's totally almost completely inaccessible and almost impossible to
use, go google!

thoughts on blog posting and sex
I decided to repost this link in part because i found it useful.
http://www.hotholyhumorous.com/2013/02/how-to-give-hand-job.html
Now normally i dont talk about my sex life on my blog, I try not to in
part because our sex life is our business but....:P
I found the above article rather useful. Because of both my medical
conditions and the medications i'm on, We tend to get a little creative
in the bedroom. I found the above link useful because I love giving
chris pleasure and I've learned over the past almost 2 years what he
likes and what he doesn't. This article gives good advice if you dont
know how to give a good hand job,and it also offers suggestions. For
example I never thought about using lube. Bet he'd probably enjoy that
one will have to try it.:)
The article also offers suggestions on things to do to help him enjoy it
more.
Over all i've found her articles both useful and informative. I'd highly
recommend her blog for those who would like information about sex from a
christian perspective.

bella then and now
Bella is not the same cat i adopted at all from the humane society well
she is, but she's not. She's very sweet and cuddley which you could see
at the humane society, but now she's more cuddley. She doesn't growl
when i pick her up in fact she leans in, and likes to climb onto my
shoulder to observe everything from high up.
She doesn't sleep on the top of the cabinets any more either. She's
found out how to get into my closet, and she's found herself a small
corner to go curl up in and sleep.
We can't let her sleep with us at night because she likes to sleep on
top of us or climb on us to find a comfortable spot, so she sleeps out
in the living room on the couch. She used to bang on our door at night,
sometimes she still does but telling her to go lay down and chasing her
away from the door seems to settle that.
She's a very very good kitty, you never have to yell at her just have to
raise your voice a bit to make her stop what ever she's doing if it's bad.
Her flee allergy flared up when i first braught her home but the allergy
shot seems to settle that down and the antibiotics they gave her seem to
have cured her infection. We got her tags and registered her with the
city as well, I gather some folks do some folks dont register the cats
with the city, but i figure with both of us being blind if she's
registered there's a much better chance of her being foundand with us
both being blind that's a good thing in case she ever gets out.
I got everything situated with her microchip as well. Changed her name
from Lola to bella there since that's what we call her. She never
responded to lola with us but that could be because we started calling
her bella from the beginning.
The humane society was feeding her a really expensive food can't
remember what it's called now, but come the first we're switching her to
felidae. Felidae is a canidae product, and canidae is one of the best
organic type petfoods i've found. inova was one of the best as well but
that gave most of my animals diaria where as canidae products dont. We
can get it off amazon for a really good price so i can give her a grain
free diet and that's good.
There's a lot of contriversey over grain free pet foods vs. pet foods
with grains and the way i see it cats are meat eaters and not grain
eaters so grain free is good. If i find it causes problems then I'll
switch it a bit to something with grains but i dont think there will be.
An observation: since i've had bella she's not once puked on my floor
and that's pretty impressive. All of my cats have always puked something
like once a week or twice or every couple weeks.....Either way it
varried. She's not puked once, and i think it's got something to do with
feeding her canned food. The bulk of her diet is canned food with enough
crunchies to satisfy her
I've already posted this or some of it in the past couple posts but i
needed to write something up for the humane society when they ask about
how she's doing so thought i'd write up a more detailed post about how
she's doing.

things
This week hasn't gone as planned at all. Was supposed to go for a
gastric emptying study today, and was supposed to go for a followup at
the doctor yesterday. Been queezey for the last couple days. It's
getting close to about the whole nausia/vommitting thing again, so
trying not to get too frustrated.
Bella is doing well, she's been sticking to me like glue since i've not
been feeling well. I trimmed her nails today, and she didn't fight me at
all. They were done a week and a half ago, but they get sharp.
Not much else going on chris had monday off so we kind of lounged and
cuddled. No more federal holidays that he gets off for about 3 months
now. We'll be looking forward to the next one!

cat or dog?
So sometimes i wonder if bella is part dog. when there are things going
on outside, she growls like a dog does.....This low quiet growl that
says "i hear things and i dont want them to come in my house" But at
other times she acts like a cat, meowing, doing kitty olimpics through
the house or any number of catlike things. But sometimes she just acts
like a dog, it's strange!
Then we have the meowing alarm clock that goes off promptly at 4:30 She
comes to the door scratches at her matt and waits. If i dont get up she
keeps repeating the process till she's extremely loud and when i chase
her away, it only works for about an hour if she knows we're still
awake. If she thinks we've gone back to sleep she'll wait 2 hours and
repeat the process again. Strange cat!

a majorly debated issue
I've thought long and hard on wether to post about this particular
issue, especially considering how some of my family or friends may feel.
However, I can no longer stay silent on the topic for a couple of large
reasons. 1. It's had a huge impact on my medical conditions in the past
several months, and 2, well if i really have to get into politics i
guess i'll start here.
The topic in question is the medical marijuana issue. 2 states now have
decided to make it legal. Not just that but i've had 2 doctors now who
have strongly urged me to try it because of my various medical problems.
So, I decided back a couple of months ago to get the priscription and
try it.
Medically it's helped me a great deal. it's kept me out of the hospital
several times now which is a good thing. My nausia and pain have
increased, and i've found this a good way to lower the nausia and pain
and help decrease some of the medications i've been on. In the end i'm
still on them, I just have to use them less often, and that's a good
thing. I'm also not on the opiates for the pain, and that's also a good
thing.
Some time ago, I began to think of how i could help other people think
through and maybe decide if this was also good for them, So i've created
a blog on the topic.
I encourage those of you who may have similar medical problems to mine
or other severe medical problems to have a look at the blog see how it's
helped me and give feedback if you wish.

bella's first vet visit
So, bella went to the vet today, and things went incredibley well. She
didn't really like it but she behaved well.
I got her flea control and she was treated for allergies and a skin
infection. I thought she was having allergy problems but i was also
unsure. The humane society paid for the problem since she had it when i
got her. I'm glad about this, glad to see they help with some of the
after adoption care, well least for this visit anyway.
Vet prices here are a bit higher then florida in some ways her allergy
shot was 55 her antibiotics were 33, i didn't have to pay for them but i
hope she doesn't have this issue too often.
Other then that, things are good, very good.

bella round 2
Well our girl has really come out of her shell now. it took her till
wednesday to come out. she did this low growl when ever she heard things
or we moved and so on, but she doesn't do that now accept to show us
when she's displeased. it's not angry, it's just her way of talking.
She's really a good girl and i'm quite pleased with how she's worked
out. We had to ban her from the bedroom when we're sleeping at night
though, she tends to climb all over you. it's cute, but hard when 2
restless people sleep in a bed because if you wake up, she wakes up and
when she wakes up she climbs on both of us. A good girl just not for
night time lol...
Vet tomorrow, we'll see how that goes.

bella
Ever since i had to get rid of caesar and esther, I've been wanting to
get another cat, I'm an extreme cat lover for many reasons. Well chris
and i are finally in a position to get one, and yesterday i went to the
humane society and i got a kitty. Her name at the shelter was Lola, but
i've renamed her to bella. Bella is like a cackey type coloring. She's
2.5 years old, and she was given up by a family because they couldn't
figure out why she was constantly chewing on herself etc. Turns out
she's got a flee allergy and so that family gave her up because they
couldn't afford to help her.
I braught her home yesterday and let her out of the carrier she
immediately jumped on the counter, and curled up in the corner. She was
very riendly and let us pet her and talk to her. But when we left her
alone she vanished and hid for a good 12 hours. She didn't want her
dinner and i ended up throwing it away. She ate the majority of the dry
food though, so that's good. She came out around 11-midnight or so and
was investigating everything. She cried at me but when i went to pet her
she hid and wouldn't come to me for nothing.
I finally found the secret to make her come out though! Bribe her with
food and petting. You can tell she wants to make friends she's just shy.
The next couple of days/weeks will be interesting as she adjusts She
goes to the vet friday for a free checkup and flee medicine.
Bella likes chris i think with some time she'll purr for both of us.:)

holidays, medical stuff etc
This was chris and my first christmas together outside of my parents's
house.
We had a blast. I didn't get to cook the dinner i planned, oh well,
that's for next year i guess. We mostly had finger food, quesadillas,
stuffed jalapinos, stuffed mushrooms all kinds of little tasty things.
We didn't do much for newyears in fact i think we were both in bed
before midnight.
I finally got hooked up with a gastrointorologist and i go see him on
the 16th. We need to find out if my pacemaker battery is dead or alive.
I suspect maybe dead because i've been in the hospital off and on a lot
more in the past couple months. I've also had a couple of very bad
vommitting spells. Other then that though medical things seem to be ok.
I had some very good days over all accept for this week.
